Aerial roots also grow if there is humidity in the air. They are totally fine and won’t harm anything.

This doesn't necessarily mean you're not watering it enough. It could also indicate that the roots in the soil are functioning poorly.

roots that grow out of the stem because the plant is not getting enough water so it starts looking for water that way
